Skanska USA Project Infographics

A collection of Skanska USA project specific infographics I designed and illustrated, In order of appearance:

How we’re helping to combat the global water crisis

Countries around the world are experiencing water shortages and stress, including the U.S. According to the New York Times, there is an imminent crisis threatening humanity: the possibility of running out of water. Skanksa is always committed to sustainability and to help celebrate National Environment Day, I worked with a writer to research and create this infographic detailing four Skanska projects that are leading the industry in water saving technologies. The infographic was shared on Skanska’s social media and blog.

North Coast Corridor Project

In San Diego, CA, Skanska and their joint venture partners are constructing bridges, widening highways, restoring and protecting the environment and implementing public safety improvements along 12 miles of coastline. This is the I-5 North Coast Corridor Program—a highly sustainable initiative that will strengthen the environment and improve travel for thousands of residents and visitors. This infographic was created as a way to highlight this incredible project and demonstrate just how significant and environmentally impressive the construction is. I partnered with a writer and project executive to design and illustrate this piece that was promoted on Skanska USA’s social channels as well as being featured on Skanska USA’s blog.

The Blueprint

Built by Skanska and designed to mimic a bird in flight, the Oculus is a signature steel structure that now sits atop the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York City. This piece ran in the New York Metro newspaper as part of an advertorial wrap, was posted on Skanska USA’s blog, and was distributed to local New York City media.

The First Cable-Stayed Bridge in NYC

Skanska USA, in a joint venture with Kiewitt and ECCO III Enterprises, have made history by bringing the first cable-stayed bridge to New York City. The project, which is divided into two phases, will replace the 78-year-old Kosciuszko Bridge. The Queens-bound bridge (Phase I) opened in April 2017. The infographic was distributed to local New York City media and also promoted on Skanska USA’s twitter.

LA’s Future Meets Its Ancient Past

As a joint venture with Traylor and Shea, Skanska is constructing the LA Metro Purple Line Extension in Los Angeles. As the project has progressed, the team has dug up some very interesting finds in the form of fossils dating back thousands of years.

First Street Tunnel Ground Freezing in D.C.

Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park are two neighborhoods in Washington D.C. that are known for their beautiful Victorian-era row homes and, unfortunately, regular flooding.  To combat this issue, Skanska is working on DC Water’s First Street Tunnel that will relieve this flooding problem by constructing a tunnel that will store up to nine million gallons of rainwater that is then pumped into D.C.’s sewer system. To construct this tunnel below dense city streets, ground freezing is key to this process, which converts water in soil to ice. This enables construction to safely continue while keeping groundwater out and minimizing disturbance to residents. This piece had a print and web version that was given to the press as part of a media tour and featured on Skanska USA’s blog.
